There is a better way.

Whenever I am asked about how I think of something to write about every week, I reply, easy, whatever has slightly irritated me.

For instance, did you know that since December, another 7000 recruitment firms have opened up, taking it to a grand total of 48,000, of which 38,000 say they do Executive Search. Clearly that is cojones. That irritates me.

Also, were you aware that 46% of new hires fail within the first 18 months, of which 89% of those fail due to culture fit?

That no effective measures are in place to mitigate for that makes me extremely irritable. Let alone the financial & reputational cost to the business, what about the poor cannon fodder? People at all levels within a business who can claim no stability in their professional lives, because of how recruitment is procured.

In splendid isolation we can all slink into our corners and go ‘Nothing to do with me Guvnor’, but it is! No finger pointing here – all of us involved can take a bow. Truly shameful chaps.

What else irritates me? Oh yes, that I am spending so much of my time irritated.

So I’m going to do something about it. If everything is being disrupted now, why not recruitment?

Time to stop saying, ‘There has to be a better way’. There is a better way.
