“Did you know that high performers are 400% more productive than average ones?”

“Oh come on, where did you get that from?”

“McKinseys, actually. Right across all businesses. Not only that, the gap rises with a job’s complexity apparently. In highly complex organisations, high performers are an astounding 800% more productive”.

“Bloody hell. Think what you could achieve if the relevant parts of your business was proportionally made up of high
performers?”

“I know!”

“So how do companies that need them, find them?”

“Good question… I’m not sure they do. There’s no real mechanism to do so, other than using the extortionately expensive search model. Even that isn’t infallible and its geared towards the very senior end of the market. It’s not available for mid tier skills. Most recruitment is pretty much based on a hard skills assessment. Are you a Project Engineer? Yes? Fab, the jobs yours”.

“But that’s no way to recruit. They could be completely wrong, particularly so from a behavioural perspective.

“Indeed they might.”

“But dammit, the benefit is huge if you get it right.”

“Yes, I know.”

“Why isn’t somebody doing something about this? There must be a better way to find brilliant people?

“Ah ha… watch this space my friend, watch this space”.
